Kadiba Stadium's Hosting Advantage Fuels SC Villa's Uganda Cup Final Dream

SC Villa has been handed a psychological boost as the Uganda Cup final against Kitara will be held at Kadiba Stadium, their home ground. This decision, deviating from the usual rotational policy, is seen by many as a significant advantage for Villa in their quest to end an 11-year trophy drought. The decision to host the Stanbic Uganda Cup final at Kadiba Stadium, SC Villa’s home ground, has given the “Jogoos” a perceived edge as they prepare to face Kitara FC on May 30th. This move by Fufa, abandoning its traditional rotational hosting policy, is being interpreted as a major psychological boost for Villa, who are desperate to end an 11-year wait for cup glory.

Despite the home advantage, SC Villa, managed by Zeljko Kovacevic, faces a stern test against Wasswa Bbosa’s tactically astute Kitara side. On paper, the final appears to be a closely contested affair.

Villa reached the final by defeating URA 3-0 on aggregate, showcasing maturity in both their away and home legs. Meanwhile, Kitara eliminated holders Vipers on away goals, demonstrating resilience and effective counter-attacking play, with Gaddafi Wahab’s crucial away goal proving decisive.

The league encounters between these two finalists offer further evidence of their parity. SC Villa secured a narrow 1-0 win at Kadiba earlier in the season, only for Kitara to retaliate with a 2-0 victory in Hoima.

SC Villa enters the final with strong momentum, having recently routed Nec 4-1. This commanding performance, despite a red card, bolstered their confidence. Kitara, on the other hand, will host Police before focusing entirely on the cup final, aiming for their second Uganda Cup title following their 2024 triumph.

With Kadiba Stadium unexpectedly assigned as the venue, SC Villa will be hoping that history repeats itself, recalling their last cup success in 2015 which also involved a venue change before a comfortable victory. The stage is set for a compelling final, with both teams vying for silverware.
