Heavily armed security operatives have sealed off the offices of outgoing Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among and Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige Kasaija. The offices were declared active crime scenes on Tuesday morning as part of an escalating crackdown on corruption.
The operation commenced around 9 AM on May 19, 2026, with detectives from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), forensics, and State House auditors taking control of the fifth floor of the parliamentary building. Staff were prevented from entering their workplaces.
Bright yellow “CRIME SCENE, DO NOT CROSS” tape was visible at the entrances, and forensic experts were seen collecting fingerprints and examining electronic devices and documents within the executive offices.
This raid, reportedly ordered by President Museveni, follows the launch of “Operation Maliza Ufisadi” (Finish Corruption). The investigation targets allegations of severe corruption, abuse of office, and money laundering against the former speaker.
Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba stated that “a lot of the people’s money and property” had been recovered and would be returned to the Treasury, urging officials to cooperate.
This action comes after raids on multiple luxury residences owned by Ms. Among over the weekend, where luxury vehicles and financial documents were reportedly seized.
Among’s lawyer, Caleb Alaka, was present at Parliament to observe the search. Meanwhile, political developments have seen the ruling NRM party endorse Jacob Oboth-Oboth for Speaker, sidelining Among.
The opposition’s National Unity Platform welcomed the investigation but called for broader accountability, with spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi stating, “many thieves are still out there.”
Parliament remained under tight security lockdown throughout the day, signaling a dramatic start to the new legislative chapter.
