The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has declared its support for Thomas Tayebwa’s bid to retain the position of Deputy Speaker in Uganda’s Parliament. The announcement was made by the PLU’s Chairman, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who noted that the decision was based on guidance from President Yoweri Museveni.
Gen. Muhoozi shared this endorsement on his X platform, stating that all PLU Members of Parliament and those aligned with the group are instructed to vote for Tayebwa. This move provides significant clarity in the race for the Deputy Speaker role, which has seen considerable political activity.
Thomas Tayebwa, the current Member of Parliament for Ruhinda North County and who served as Deputy Speaker in the 11th Parliament, has been a consistent figure guided by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s discipline and President Museveni’s vision. The PLU’s unified backing is expected to bolster his support ahead of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus’s final candidate selections and the subsequent official parliamentary vote.
