Kampala police have intensified their efforts to combat crime, leading to the recovery of several suspected stolen electronic devices. An intelligence-led operation along Mawanda Road in Kawempe Division thwarted a phone-snatching operation, resulting in the seizure of eight iPhones, three Tecno phones, a Samsung phone, and a laptop.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, the operation on May 18 responded to numerous complaints from residents regarding phone theft by motorcycle-riding gangs. Although the suspects escaped on their motorcycle, they abandoned a bag containing the electronics.
Authorities are now urging the public to come forward with information to help identify the suspects and reunite the recovered property with their rightful owners. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
In parallel, broader anti-crime measures have seen significant arrests. On May 19, an overnight operation in Entebbe’s Bendegere, Kasenyi, and Nakiwogo areas led to the apprehension of 31 suspects allegedly found with narcotic substances and other illicit items.
Similarly, a separate operation on May 18 in Mukono District’s Jojo, Sonde, and Misindye areas resulted in the arrest of seven individuals from identified criminal black spots. All arrested suspects are being held at various police stations pending prosecution.
These operations underscore the Kampala Metropolitan Police’s commitment to enhancing public safety and combating criminal activities throughout the region.
