Tragedy struck the Kampala-Gulu highway yesterday when a road crash in Namasa village, Nakasongola district, claimed the lives of two people and left another injured. The deceased have been identified as 17-year-old Emirina Bukirwa and an adult male known only as James.
According to police, the incident involved a Toyota Sienta traveling from Gulu towards Kampala. Preliminary investigations suggest the Sienta rammed into the rear offside of a stationary low-bed truck that was reportedly parked, obstructing nearly half of the lane.
The driver of the Sienta, 35-year-old Prossy Nansamba, sustained severe injuries and is receiving medical attention at St Francis health centre in Migyera.
Authorities noted that the parked truck lacked any visible warning signs or safety markings, which investigators believe may have been a contributing factor to the fatal collision. The bodies of the deceased have been moved to Nakasongola health centre IV for postmortem examination.
Both vehicles involved have been secured at Migyera police station as the investigation continues.
