Members of Parliament representing the Ankole sub-region have announced a united front, vowing to prioritize service delivery and transparent governance over past political rivalries. This commitment emerged during a thanksgiving ceremony for Rwampara District Woman MP Annah Kansiime.

Eleven legislators from the region acknowledged the prevailing challenges in Ankole, including poor road infrastructure, educational gaps, and persistent poverty. They emphasized that the time for political campaigning is over, and their collective focus must now be on addressing these pressing issues.

“We have decided to focus on services and what is good for our people,” stated Ms. Kansiime, highlighting the need to move beyond the “tense political season” they had experienced. She stressed that cooperation and unity are essential for societal improvement.

Echoing this sentiment, Rwampara County MP Amos Kankunda expressed the desire for a singular voice for Ankole MPs in Parliament. “I believe if we all gathered our efforts and echoed on one thing, we can be heard,” he remarked, citing the divisions of the 11th Parliament as a lesson learned. He added that providing services is the best reward for their constituents.

Supporting the initiative, Sheema District Woman MP Adrine Katusiime Mwebesa noted that this unified approach could also help combat corruption. Rwampara County MP Charles Ngabirano further affirmed their intention to champion accountability.

The MPs were recently sworn in for Uganda’s 12th Parliament following elections that saw significant shifts in representation across the sub-region.
