Joint security forces have sealed off the parliamentary offices of outgoing Speaker Anita Among and Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige, transforming parts of the building into a crime scene.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), supported by armed personnel, secured the offices early Tuesday, preventing staff from accessing the area. Security cordons were established, directing non-essential personnel away from the sealed zones to preserve potential evidence.

This development occurs just two days after Ms. Among withdrew her candidacy for the 12th Parliament speakership amid significant pressure. Her withdrawal followed police and military raids on her homes in Nakasero, Kigo, and Ntinda, where luxury vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce and Range Rovers, were confiscated.

The investigation, reportedly initiated by President Museveni, stems from allegations of wealth under-declaration, money laundering, and breaches of the Leadership Code Act, filed with the Inspectorate of Government.

Forensic experts and investigators were observed entering the sealed offices, suggesting a comprehensive digital and physical audit of parliamentary financial and procurement records. Officials from the Inspectorate of Government and police have withheld specific comments, indicating a significant accountability process unfolding within the government.
