Parliamentary proceedings were disrupted on Tuesday as a team of at least 20 police detectives cordoned off several offices on the fifth floor, including the former speaker Anita Among’s chamber. The operation, which began around 9:30 am, saw these areas designated as crime scenes, with journalists and unauthorized staff barred from entry.

Among’s legal representative, Caleb Alaka, confirmed his client was “okay” and stated a formal statement would be released, though he declined to elaborate on the specifics of the ongoing investigation.

Plainclothes security operatives were observed moving through the building, where most sections remained inaccessible, contributing to an atmosphere of palpable tension and uncertainty among staff.

This development follows four days of intensified investigations, with detectives previously searching properties linked to Among in Nakaseke, Kigo, and Ntinda. While official sources have remained silent, unconfirmed reports suggest the probe is examining alleged financial networks, procurement irregularities, and connections between political figures and government ministries.

The widening inquiry into corruption, money laundering, and illicit enrichment has drawn attention, with Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba asserting that the operation will not exclude anyone, with the exception of the President and his mother.
