The 2026 Absa KH3-7 Hills Run saw a record-breaking participation of over 8,000 runners who converged on Kampala to tackle its signature challenging terrain for a cause greater than sport.

Peter Akwech claimed the men’s 25km title with a time of 1 hour, 21 minutes, and 40 seconds, while Sylvia Chelangat led the women’s field, finishing in 1 hour, 46 minutes, and 55 seconds. Both champions not only secured cash prizes but also earned coveted slots to represent Uganda at the Absa Black Star Marathon in Accra, Ghana.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the event underscored its commitment to philanthropy, raising over Shs500 million this year to support girls’ education, menstrual hygiene, sanitation, and welfare. Since its inception in 2023, the Run has cumulatively raised approximately Shs900 million, directly aiding over 40,000 girls in staying in school through various initiatives.

This year’s edition, the fourth, witnessed a significant increase in participants from the previous year and attracted a robust network of over 22 partners and sponsors. The event’s route traversed eight of Kampala’s hills, with runners collecting commemorative wristbands for each successfully conquered ascent, transforming the challenge into a tangible symbol of achievement.

The KH3-7 Hills Run continues to grow, reflecting a broader cultural shift in Uganda towards wellness, community engagement, and corporate social responsibility, with participation spanning elite athletes, running clubs, families, and corporate teams. The event concluded with musical performances, celebrating a day of endurance, community spirit, and impactful fundraising.
