Uganda has officially established an Honorary Consulate in Zambia, a move designed to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between the two African nations. The inauguration took place in Lusaka during the Uganda-Zambia Trade and Investment Forum.
This initiative underscores Uganda’s commitment to fostering deeper engagement in trade, investment, innovation, and regional integration across the continent. The forum itself brought together key officials and private sector representatives from both countries to explore avenues for enhanced bilateral trade and investment partnerships.
Discussions focused on strategic sectors, with presentations from the Uganda Investment Authority, Zambia Development Agency, and the Uganda Tourism Board. Panel discussions aimed to identify and remove market barriers, thereby unlocking new investment opportunities for both Ugandan and Zambian businesses.
The event saw significant interest from the Zambian private sector in exploring partnerships within Uganda and the broader East African market. Specific interest was noted in supplying wood products for Uganda’s construction industry.
Business-to-business and business-to-government sessions facilitated direct engagement, laying the foundation for future collaborations and cross-border trade. The forum was a joint effort involving public and private stakeholders from both nations, including the Uganda Chamber of Energy and Minerals and Uganda Airlines.
This development is seen as a crucial step in boosting economic cooperation and positioning both Uganda and Zambia as key hubs for business and investment within Africa.
