Moses Karangwa, a prominent figure in Kayunga District politics and Senior Presidential Advisor, has died at the age of 57 following a tragic road accident on the Kayunga-Jinja highway. The crash occurred when his vehicle swerved to avoid a motorcyclist.

Karangwa, also the NRM chairperson for Kayunga District, recently pursued a Diploma in Social Work and Social Administration and was working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He had expressed confidence that his new academic qualifications would lead to a ministerial appointment in President Museveni’s upcoming cabinet.

Known as the “political godfather” of Kayunga, Karangwa wielded considerable influence, impacting local administrative appointments and often intervening in political contests. Despite facing allegations of land grabbing, he was also seen by many as a benefactor who supported those in need.

In his recent role as Senior Presidential Advisor, Karangwa had declared himself an anti-corruption advocate, aiming to tackle corruption within Kayunga district.

Beyond his personal ambitions, Karangwa was heavily invested in his daughter, Jacklyn Birungi’s, political career, supporting her bids for the Kayunga District Woman MP seat. His untimely death leaves an unfulfilled legacy and a notable vacuum in the region’s political sphere.
