Kampala experienced a touch of Parisian flair on Sunday as the Sheraton Kampala Hotel hosted ‘Le Brunch de Paris.’ The event, a collaboration between Alliance Française Kampala, Sheraton Kampala Hotel, and Talent Africa Group, blended French culture with Kampala’s vibrant social scene.
Guests, dressed in elegant attire, mingled in the hotel gardens while enjoying French pastries, cheeses, and an array of brunch dishes. Champagne and wine flowed freely as a live band provided a sophisticated soundtrack, mixing French classics with contemporary hits.
“We created a little corner of Paris here today in our gardens at Sheraton,” said Jean-Philippe Bittencourt, the General Manager of Sheraton Kampala Hotel, highlighting the event’s aim to celebrate French gastronomy, wines, and fashion.
H.E. Virginie Leroy, the French Ambassador to Uganda, emphasized the brunch’s role in fostering a warm atmosphere for experiencing French culture. “This is a brunch Parisien. The event is meant to showcase French cuisine together with French wine in a very relaxed ambiance,” she commented.
The gathering attracted a diverse crowd, including diplomats, business leaders, entertainers, and socialites. Notable attendees included renowned musician Navio, filmmakers Matthew and Eleanor Nabwiso, rapper GNL Zamba, businesswoman Aly Alibhai, and businessman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia.
Singer Didi became a highlight of the afternoon, captivating guests with her soulful renditions of French and English songs. The relaxed ambiance encouraged networking and conversation, with attendees expressing delight in the food, drinks, and the opportunity to connect.
Filmmaker Matthew Nabwiso described the experience as “very welcoming” with a “beautiful ambience.” Happiness Daher-Ebhohon, General Manager of the French Chamber of Commerce in Uganda, noted it was an “amazing event, a mix of French and Ugandans trying to understand or explore the French cuisine.”
As the afternoon progressed, the atmosphere remained lively, with many guests taking to the dance floor. The event successfully created a space for relaxed social interaction, where the charm of Paris met Kampala’s lively spirit.
