Omoro District Woman MP, Catherine Lamwaka, has officially declared her interest in the Deputy Speaker role for the 12th Parliament. Lamwaka, a member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and currently serving her third term, expressed that her constituency felt a distinct loss following the passing of late Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.

She explained that her bid aims to restore hope for the people of Omoro District and the nation, working alongside the new Speaker. Lamwaka noted that her aspirations are contingent upon the guidance and decisions of the NRM party organs, to whom she remains loyal.

Lamwaka’s ambition places her among several other NRM members vying for the position, including Lilian Aber, Jane Ruth Aceng, and Robinah Rwakoojo, with Lydia Wanyoto also having expressed interest.

Having previously served as a Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Lamwaka has held significant parliamentary committee roles, including Chairperson of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Chairperson of Uganda Women Parliamentarians, among others. Her earlier attempts to enter Parliament in 2011 and 2015 were unsuccessful.
