Newly elected leaders in Butebo District have officially committed to working collaboratively, setting aside political differences to enhance service delivery for the local population. The swearing-in ceremony, presided over by Chief Magistrates Lydia Kambedha and Karim Kyembe, saw 38 district councillors and the LC5 Chairperson take their oaths.

LC5 Chairperson Samuel Keddi emphasized the critical need for cohesion among leaders and residents, stating, “Our priority is to unite the people of Butebo, ensuring that every citizen feels included in the development of our district. Unity is the foundation upon which we will build effective service delivery.” He called for an end to post-election divisions, urging leaders to view each other as development partners rather than adversaries.

The new council has outlined a roadmap focused on improving education, healthcare, water access, and livelihoods through enhanced income-generating programs. The leaders have vowed to uphold principles of accountability, integrity, and responsiveness to the needs of Butebo’s citizens.

Chief Magistrate Kambedha challenged the leaders to be trustworthy and inspire hope, reminding them that the community has placed its confidence in them for better services. Resident District Commissioner John Bosco Mubito encouraged the leaders to shun divisive politics and embrace the President’s “No sleep” agenda while actively fighting corruption.

Residents expressed cautious optimism, hoping the new leadership will unite the community and address urgent needs in health centers, schools, and infrastructure. Incoming Speaker Silas Okedi highlighted the commitment to inclusive decision-making and sustainable development initiatives. Key areas requiring immediate attention include education, healthcare services, and road infrastructure.
