The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have taken into custody two staff members serving the former Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among. These individuals are reportedly cooperating with an ongoing investigation into allegations of illicit wealth and potential corruption linked to Among.
Sources indicate that the detained individuals include the former Speaker’s head of security detail, a senior police officer from the Directorate of Counter Terrorism, and an additional civilian staff member. They are currently undergoing interrogation at the Mbuya headquarters of Defence Intelligence and Security.
This development follows coordinated raids conducted over the weekend on properties associated with the former Speaker. Operatives from the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the UPDF targeted her Nakasero residence and other properties in Kololo and Kigo.
The investigation is reportedly focused on gathering documents and financial records to substantiate claims of illicit wealth accumulation, money laundering, abuse of office, and potential breaches of the Leadership Code Act.
