Outgoing Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Jacob Marksons, popularly known as Oboth Oboth, has shared insights into his successful political career, citing humility, servant leadership, commitment, and modesty as his guiding principles.
Recently, Oboth Oboth was endorsed for the speakership of the 12th Parliament by over 300 Members of Parliament. This endorsement received backing from President Yoweri Museveni and First Son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as announced by the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).
Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony at his home in Kyungu, Mukono District, Oboth Oboth stated, “In modesty, that’s how God works, we must be content with who we are.” He believes many of Uganda’s challenges stem from individuals desiring roles or statuses they do not possess.
Despite his ministerial position, Oboth Oboth underscored his dedication to servant leadership, a trait he acknowledges might be uncommon. He stressed that contentment, rather than financial gain, should be a leader’s core value.
The Member of Parliament for Budama West Central also credited his political achievements to strong local support, disciplined party structures, and the security forces’ role in ensuring a peaceful electoral process. He specifically thanked the people of Budama West Central for his electoral success.
Oboth Oboth will likely be a key contender in the upcoming election for the Speaker of the 12th Parliament, scheduled for May 25th.
