Sharif Mangaraine Galimaka, the newly elected LCV chairperson for Buyende District, has publicly declared his refusal to take his oath of office on a date he alleges was set by his political opponents. Mangaraine was initially slated to be sworn in on May 13, 2026, along with the district council, to facilitate the formation of the executive.
However, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) later informed Mangaraine that the ceremony had been moved to May 19. Mangaraine asserts that this postponement was influenced by individuals aiming to disrupt the district’s leadership transition.
“I want to register my total disappointment with those getting involved in changing dates that had already been agreed upon and submitted together with the Chief Administrative Officer before the Chief Magistrate,” Mangaraine stated.
He argued that the sudden postponement, communicated just hours before the scheduled event without a clear reason, infringed upon his rights as the chairperson-elect. Mangaraine pointed out that the process was properly followed, with the CAO officially confirming the initial date to the Chief Magistrate on May 7.
While not identifying specific individuals, Mangaraine alleged that there are attempts to manipulate both the swearing-in ceremony and the election of the district speaker, intending to undermine his administration before it even begins. He remains firm in his decision not to be pressured into taking the oath on May 19, stating his readiness to wait for the Ministry of Local Government guidelines to be followed, even if it means a year’s delay. “I will not accept unilateral decisions being made on my behalf,” he concluded.
