Since her election as Deputy Speaker of the 11th Parliament in May 2021, Anita Among has become known for her assertive and often widely reported remarks. Initially aiming for a decade as Deputy Speaker followed by a decade as Speaker, her trajectory quickly saw her ascend to the role of Speaker.

Among has not shied away from expressing strong opinions on political matters. In February 2025, she famously declared her intent to return as Speaker unopposed, asserting her position despite potential challengers. Her pronouncements have also touched on societal issues, including a condemnation of corruption in March 2023, which she described as a “vice that has eaten our society and billions of public funds are lost every year.”

A more controversial statement came in June 2025 when she likened President Museveni to God the Father and his son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to God the Son, during a political rally. She has also addressed her own political future, stating in July 2024 that she intended to serve only one term as Speaker and would hand over to Hon. Thomas Tayebwa.

Amidst scrutiny regarding her wealth and alleged corruption, Among has defended her actions, questioning why her contributions to districts are labelled as corrupt. In May 2024, she rebuffed claims of presidential ambitions for 2031, stating she intended to retire from active politics at that time, emphasizing she had “overachieved” by becoming Speaker.

Her political commentary has extended to inter-party cooperation, notably cautioning against overly close alliances, stating that while cooperation is possible, it should not extend to high offices like the Speakership. Addressing the NRM party delegates in August 2025, she highlighted her commitment to adding value to the party and sought support for a national leadership role within it.

As the 11th Parliament concluded its term, Among reflected on its achievements, calling it the “epitome of a people-centered legislature.” She has also engaged in local politics, urging constituents to consider a candidate’s development record, including their personal investments and home in the constituency.
