Probationer Police Constable (PPC) Jovian Olepus, serving with the Anti-Stock Theft Unit in Napak District, can now walk with greater comfort. Olepus, who has unusually large feet measuring size 17, faced significant difficulties in obtaining suitable police-issue shoes since joining the Uganda Police Force.
This challenge impacted his comfort and ability to perform daily duties effectively. Recognizing the issue, the Directorate of Logistics and Engineering stepped in to provide a solution.
AIGP James Apora, Director of Logistics and Engineering, presented Olepus with two pairs of custom-made shoes at the directorate headquarters in Kampala. AIGP Apora highlighted that this was a unique welfare case requiring a special order to be manufactured.
“We could not allow one of our own to continue working without proper footwear,” stated AIGP Apora. He added that Olepus’s situation has prompted the police to improve their planning for addressing the special welfare needs of officers. The delivery of these custom shoes was seen as a symbol of the institution’s commitment to its personnel.
