Manchester United is on the verge of appointing Michael Carrick as their permanent head coach.
The club has reportedly agreed terms with the former midfielder, who took over on an interim basis in January.
Sources indicate that the contract exchange process is underway, with an announcement anticipated within the next two days. While there’s a possibility the deal might not be finalized before Sunday’s match against Nottingham Forest, the club aims to have it completed for their final home game of the season.
Carrick is expected to sign an initial two-year contract, with an option for an additional year.
Since taking charge, Carrick has overseen a significant turnaround in the team’s fortunes, reviving their hopes for Champions League qualification. His impressive performance as interim manager has positioned him as the leading candidate for the permanent role.
The club’s leadership, including CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, recommended Carrick to the owners, Ineos, and the decision has been approved by the hierarchy.
When Carrick was initially appointed on a short-term basis, the club explored various options. However, his immediate impact and the team’s subsequent revival, which could see them finish third in the league, have seemingly made him the undisputed choice.
While the long-term success of this decision remains to be seen, the current sentiment within the club appears to be that it is the correct move.
