Kitara FC has eliminated defending champions Vipers SC in the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, booking their place in the final on the away goals rule.
The decisive second-leg match at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende ended 1-1, following a goalless stalemate in the first leg.
Gaddafi Wahab opened the scoring for Kitara in the 30th minute, capitalizing on a cross from Henry Musisi and a headed assist from Jimmy Kalema. This goal allowed Kitara to implement their coach Wasswa Bbosa’s strategy of playing on the counter-attack.
Vipers found an equalizer early in the second half after a penalty was awarded for a foul on Yunus Sentamu, a decision that drew controversy. Karim Watambala converted the spot-kick.
However, Vipers could not add to their tally, and Kitara’s defense held strong to secure the draw and their place in the final, where they will face either SC Villa or URA.
