The Ascension of Jesus Christ, celebrated by Christians, offers a powerful message of hope, assuring believers of eternal life and Christ’s continued presence.
According to scripture, Jesus, after His resurrection, remained on Earth for 40 days before ascending to heaven witnessed by His disciples. This event marks the completion of His earthly mission, affirms His divine authority, and signifies His coronation as King.
While the exact nature of heaven remains a mystery, Jesus’ Ascension confirms its reality as the ultimate reward for the saved. It is described not as a mere extension of earthly life, but as a transformed state of eternal joy where believers will ultimately reside with God.
In His heavenly abode, Jesus, bearing the wounds from His crucifixion, is incorruptible and eternally active. He ascends to sit at God’s right hand, symbolizing His shared honor, authority, and sovereignty, and importantly, actively intercedes for humanity.
As the “mediator of a New Covenant,” Jesus entered the heavenly sanctuary with His own blood, offering salvation through faith in Him and His atoning sacrifice. This priestly ministry is continuously made present on Earth through the Eucharist, described as the “source and summit of Christian life.”
Jesus’ promise to prepare a place for believers underscores the hope of an eternal home free from suffering and death. His presence continues within each believer through the Holy Spirit, empowering them to overcome temptations and live in obedience to God, ensuring His active role in their lives and in the mission of His Church.
