Chemutai Dominates Shanghai Steeplechase, Breaking Nine Minutes

Uganda’s 2021 Olympic champion, Peruth Chemutai, delivered a stellar performance at the Shanghai Diamond League, winning the women’s 3000m steeplechase with a personal best time of 8:51.47.

Chemutai narrowly edged out her compatriot and world champion Faith Cherotich, who finished a mere 0.01 seconds behind in 8:51.48. The race also saw Tunisia’s Marwa Bouzayani set a national record of 8:58.09, and Ethiopia’s Kena Tufa improved her personal best to 8:59.66.

This remarkable event marked the third time in history that four women have finished a steeplechase race under nine minutes, solidifying Chemutai’s status as a leading force in the discipline.
