The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has officially confirmed it has received a petition requesting an investigation into the wealth and conduct of Bukedea Woman MP Anita Annet Among. The petition, submitted by a group of lawyers and activists, accuses the outgoing Speaker of Parliament of potential violations of the Leadership Code Act.

Inspector General of Government Aisha Batala Naluzze stated on May 15, 2026, that the IG’s office is processing the complaint according to its established procedures. “We received the complaint and we are processing it,” Justice Naluzze confirmed, adding that the inspectorate would conduct an independent assessment and make its findings public.

The petition arises amid significant public scrutiny concerning Ms. Among’s alleged lavish lifestyle, which has sparked widespread debate. Petitioners allege that Ms. Among has failed to declare or has under-declared her wealth, assets, and liabilities as required by Ugandan law. They are reportedly seeking a detailed audit of her financial declarations, asset acquisitions, and spending patterns.

Justice Naluzze encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of illicit enrichment, abuse of office, and unexplained wealth among public officials. The IG’s office stated its commitment to investigating such reports to uphold accountability.

Ms. Among has faced criticism for her public display of high-value assets, including luxury vehicles and properties, and significant cash donations at public events. Critics argue that such conspicuous wealth displays by public officials can erode public trust, especially when many citizens are facing economic hardships. The Leadership Code Act mandates public officials to declare their income and assets and prohibits the use of public office for personal gain.
