The Uganda Rugby Premiership is heating up as the playoff quarter-finals commence this weekend, following the conclusion of the regular season.

Holders Black Pirates have established themselves as strong contenders, topping the table with 47 points. This strong performance in the regular season, combined with their Enterprise Cup run, offers them a perceived easier path, beginning with a clash against eighth-placed Walukuba Barbarians. This draw mirrors their successful run last year, potentially setting them up for a home-field final at Kings Park.

Despite their advantageous position, Pirates’ recently crowned MVP, Timothy Kisiga, is urging caution. He emphasized the shift in intensity from regular season play to knockout matches, stressing the need for consistency and respect for every opponent. Coach Marvin Odong echoed this sentiment, highlighting that playoff games demand a higher level of performance.

Meanwhile, Buffaloes, who led the standings for much of the season, faltered in the final weeks, losing their top spot to Kobs. They will now face Plascon Mongers in a quarterfinal clash, with both teams looking to regain momentum after inconsistent finishes to the regular season.

The most anticipated fixture sees Victoria Sharks take on Platinum Credit Heathens. Sharks, who are in a rebuilding phase, face a stern test against a strong Heathens side. An earlier encounter this season saw Heathens convincingly defeat Sharks 30-5, a result that Sharks will be looking to overturn.

This weekend’s quarter-final fixtures are: Victoria Sharks vs. Platinum Credit Heathens, Walukuba Barbarians vs. Stanbic Black Pirates, Impis vs. KCB Kobs, and Plascon Mongers vs. Toyota Buffaloes.
