Vipers SC, despite leading the Uganda Premier League, are experiencing a worrying winless streak across competitions, putting their domestic double aspirations under pressure ahead of a critical Uganda Cup semifinal. Vipers SC, once seemingly invincible, are now navigating a turbulent period, having gone four matches without a victory across all competitions. This unexpected wobble has cast a shadow over their ambitions for a domestic double, transforming what appeared a straightforward campaign into a nail-biting contest.
The Venoms currently sit atop the Uganda Premier League with 61 points from 28 games, but their lead has been cut to a mere three points by a resurgent KCCA. Recent draws against SC Villa, Kitara, KCCA, and Police have allowed rivals to close the gap, intensifying the pressure with only two league matches remaining.
The team’s struggle for a decisive finish was evident in their recent 0-0 draw against Kitara in the first leg of the Stanbic Uganda Cup semifinal. Despite home advantage in the return leg at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, the tie remains delicately poised.
Coach Ivan Minnaert’s side must rediscover the clinical edge that characterized their earlier performances if they are to overcome an unpredictable Kitara, coached by Wasswa Bbosa. Kitara, despite recent league defeats, have proven to be a dangerous opponent, especially in cup competitions, and are keen to reach the final after their 2024 triumph.
With league title and Uganda Cup glory hanging in the balance, Vipers face a critical juncture. They must shake off their recent struggles and recapture their winning form to secure domestic silverware this season.
