The second day of the swearing-in ceremony for Uganda’s 12th Parliament commenced on a cool morning, with 86 newly elected Members taking their oaths. This brings the total number of MPs sworn in to 270 as the process continues.

Notable figures among those sworn in included the Minister of State for Finance (Microfinance), Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune; Minister in the Office of the President, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Jim Muhwezi; and Amelia Kyambadde, who makes a return to Parliament after a break during the 11th Parliament.

The ceremony, which began on May 13, 2026, and is scheduled to conclude on May 15, 2026, saw proceedings continue undeterred by a light morning drizzle. The atmosphere was enlivened by music and drumming.

Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, was the first to take the oath on this day. Other members sworn in included representatives from various constituencies and sectors, including two UPDF representatives, James Kinalwa and Samuel Kavuma.

The Clerk of Parliament has called for a break, with the afternoon session slated to resume at 1:00 PM.
