Mr. Ata Serdarow, a representative from Turkmenistan, paid a courtesy call on President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at State House, Entebbe, before his departure from Uganda.
Serdarow was in the country to represent H.E. Serdar Berdimuhamedow, the President of Turkmenistan, at President Museveni’s inauguration on May 12th, 2026. President Museveni expressed his gratitude to Serdarow for attending the ceremony and presented him with books about Uganda as a token of friendship.
During the discussions, Serdarow conveyed Turkmenistan’s desire to enhance bilateral relations and cooperation with Uganda, specifically mentioning strengthening ties between their respective political parties and parliaments. He described the visit as historic, marking the first official visit by a Turkmen representative to Uganda.
Serdarow also provided insights into Turkmenistan’s economy, highlighting its significant natural gas and oil reserves, and its exports of cotton, textiles, meat, and wheat. He noted that Turkmenistan supplied gas to China via multiple pipelines and was planning further infrastructure development.
Despite Turkmenistan’s arid climate, with desert covering roughly 80% of the country, Serdarow praised Uganda’s pleasant climate, natural beauty, and the hospitality of its people. The meeting was also attended by Hon. Henry Okello Oryem, the outgoing Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
