Tororo Municipality has officially transitioned leadership as the outgoing mayor handed over office on Thursday. The ceremony marked a formal transfer of official documents, keys, and council records to Town Clerk Ayub Alikwan, who will now steer municipal operations until the newly elected leaders are officially installed.
The handover encompassed vital information including financial records, statutory files, pending contracts, and a comprehensive report on ongoing projects and critical matters needing immediate attention. Technical officers present described the event as emotional, reflecting on the outgoing mayor’s contributions to development projects and council planning.
“I came here to serve. I leave because I believe our work continues in capable hands,” stated the outgoing mayor. He stressed that the transition was designed to ensure uninterrupted service delivery in sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure.
Appeals were made to the incoming administration to prioritize ongoing projects, specifically mentioning the upgrade of Nyangole and Kasoli health centers and the crucial titling of public land, including the Children’s Lions Park. The Town Clerk pledged to protect public assets and maintain essential services throughout this interim phase.
Plans are also underway for an audit of outstanding commitments and a review of service delivery priorities to pinpoint areas requiring urgent intervention. Local leaders and civil servants have called for unity and cooperation to support the incoming administration, with the swearing-in of mayor-elect Benard Ochieng and the new council anticipated soon.
