Tragedy struck Kakori village in Bukedea district when a 15-year-old girl, identified as Mary Imongot, was found dead by hanging from a mango tree. Imongot, a primary six pupil, was discovered by community members early Thursday morning.

According to relatives, the events leading to the discovery began on Wednesday evening. Imongot had reportedly gone to the local market without her mother’s permission and returned late.

Her mother, Mary Ikiding, allegedly disciplined her after finding her with several boys by the roadside. Despite this, Imongot appeared calm afterwards and joined her family for supper. Later that night, she is believed to have left the house unnoticed and taken her own life.

A relative described finding Imongot hanging from the tree with a handkerchief tied around her eyes.

Local authorities were alerted, and the LC III chairperson of Kabarwa sub-county, Ben Angura, instructed residents not to disturb the scene pending the arrival of the police. The body remained at the site as the community awaited an official police investigation into the circumstances of Imongot’s death.

As of the time of reporting, the police had not released an official statement regarding the incident.
