Record champions St. Mary’s Kitende faced an early scare in the U-20 Football Boys Championship but ultimately advanced to the knockout stage with a decisive 3-0 win against Seroma at Lango College grounds.
Needing a victory to avoid an early exit from a challenging group, Kitende struggled in the first half. However, a tactical substitution by coach Hassan Zungu at halftime injected new life into the team.
Jordan Tugume broke the deadlock with a header, followed by goals from Nabiru Kajumba and Collin Ocatre, sealing Kitende’s progression as group winners. The team, aiming to reclaim the title after a two-year drought, will now look ahead to the Round of 16.
In other results, Bukedea Comprehensive North crashed out of the tournament after Lubiri SS defeated them 2-0, securing their own advancement alongside Group winners Kitende. Elsewhere, Greenlight Islamic SS and Kibuli SS also squeezed through their respective groups to reach the next round.
The tournament continues with Round of 32 matches, featuring intriguing matchups like Jinja Progressive against Amus College and a clash between Greenlight Islamic SS and Kibuli SS.
