Pope Francis Appoints New Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda

Pope Francis has named Most Rev. Tomasz Grysa as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda. Archbishop Grysa, who holds the Titular Archbishop of Rubicon title, takes over from Archbishop Luigi Bianco. Archbishop Bianco had been serving in Uganda since 2019 before his reassignment in May 2025.
Prior to his new role in Uganda, Archbishop Grysa served as the Apostolic Nuncio to Madagascar, Seychelles, and the Republic of Mauritius, as well as the Apostolic Delegate to the Comoros and La Réunion. This information was shared in a statement by Rev. Fr. Georges Kwami Kouwonou, who has been managing the Nunciature’s affairs.
Born in Poland in 1970, Archbishop Grysa was ordained a priest in 1995 and holds a doctorate in Canon Law. He joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 2001. His extensive experience includes service in various Pontifical Representations in countries such as the Russian Federation, India, Belgium, Mexico, Brazil, and postings in New York, Israel, and Palestine.
Archbishop Grysa is multilingual, fluent in Polish, Italian, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian.
