Moses Kazibwe Appointed Deputy Chief Justice

President Yoweri Museveni has officially appointed Moses Kawumi Kazibwe to the esteemed position of Deputy Chief Justice. This pivotal appointment fills the role left vacant by Flavian Zeija’s recent elevation. The decision, announced by State House Uganda, signifies a strategic move to bolster leadership within the nation’s judicial system.

Kazibwe brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served on both the Court of Appeal of Uganda and the Constitutional Court. His appointment elevates him to the second-highest judicial office in Uganda.

In a related development, Agnes Alum has been appointed as the new Chief Registrar of the High Court, succeeding Sarah Langa Siu, who recently became a High Court judge. The Chief Registrar plays a crucial role in overseeing court administration and the smooth operation of judicial processes.

Kazibwe’s judicial career saw him appointed as a High Court judge in May 2016, coinciding with Chief Justice Zeija’s own ascension to the bench. Their parallel paths have seen both rise to significant leadership positions within a decade.

Prior to his appellate court service, Kazibwe served as the resident judge at the Mubende High Court circuit. During his tenure, he was recognized for driving legal reforms, effectively tackling case backlogs, and fostering community engagement through initiatives like Court Open Days. He also previously presided over the Kabale High Court circuit.

At the Court of Appeal, Kazibwe has been instrumental in special appellate sessions aimed at clearing long-standing criminal case backlogs. These efforts underscore his commitment to judicial efficiency and access to justice.
