Ministers and Returning Legislators Sworn into 12th Parliament; Amama Mbabazi Accompanying Wife

Several ministers took their oaths as members of the 12th Parliament today, alongside legislators returning after previous terms. The second day of the 12th Parliament’s swearing-in ceremony saw a number of ministers take their oaths as Members of Parliament. Among them were Third Deputy Premier, Hon. Rukia Nakadama Isanga, and Ministers Hon. Matia Kasaija (Finance), Hon. Nobert Mao (Justice), Hon. Judith Nabakooba (Lands), and Hon. Margaret Muhanga (State for Health).

Also taking their oaths were several legislators who had served in previous parliamentary terms. These included former East African Legislative Assembly representatives Hon. Suzan Nakawuki and Hon. Dennis Namara, journalist-turned-politician Hon. Eriasa Mukiibi Sserunjogi, and Hon. Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola.

A notable presence in the House was former Prime Minister, Hon. Amama Mbabazi. He was not taking the oath himself but was there to accompany his wife, Jacqueline Mbabazi, who was sworn in as the representative for Older Persons (Western). Amama Mbabazi previously served as the MP for Kinkiizi West until 2016.

Over the first two days, a significant number of legislators have been sworn in, with approximately 170 taking their oaths on the second day alone. In total, 354 members, more than half of the Parliament, have completed their swearing-in process. The ceremony is scheduled to conclude tomorrow, Friday, May 15, 2026.
