The 12th Parliament of Uganda has officially opened with the crucial swearing-in ceremonies for newly elected Members of Parliament. The proceedings began with the playing of the National and East African anthems, followed by the Clerk to Parliament reading the proclamation empowering the administration of oaths.

Key legislative figures took their oaths alongside their colleagues. Among those sworn in were Speaker Anita Among, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and Vice President Jessica Alupo. The oaths of allegiance and of a Member of Parliament, as stipulated in the Constitution, were administered, binding the legislators to serve Uganda faithfully and uphold its constitution.

The swearing-in process, which started on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, is scheduled to continue through Friday, May 15, 2026. The event is being widely broadcast on television, radio, and through Parliament’s social media channels, ensuring public access to this significant democratic milestone.

Notable attendees and oath-takers included the Third Deputy Prime Minister, Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, alongside numerous other district representatives and county MPs.
