The Stanbic Bank-sponsored Entebbe Match-play Golf Challenge has seen another round of intense competition, with the notable advancement of the mother-daughter team, Edrae Kagombe and Evelyn Atukunda.

Facing off against Esther Aganyira and Arthur Ronnie Arinaitwe in the third round, Kagombe (handicap 20) and Atukunda (handicap 17) secured a 1-up victory on the 18th hole. This win makes them the last remaining female pairing in the prestigious tournament.

“Whichever team we are taking on, we are going to be the only ladies,” commented Atukunda, emphasizing their unique position. “Just to know that we (ladies) are still there.”

The duo has a history of performing well in the event. Last year, Atukunda partnered with her husband, Ellis Katwebaze, to finish fourth, while Kagombe and her husband, Charles Kagombe, took third place. This season, Atukunda teamed up with her mother due to her husband’s work commitments, and they remain optimistic about their chances.

Other notable results from Round III include Brian Manyindo and Mark Musinguzi’s dominant 6&4 win over Daniel Kalungi and Anthony Agaba, and Picole Lukyamuzi and Henry Nsubuga’s 4&2 victory against Paul Nsereko and Patrick Mugisha.

This year’s tournament marks Season IX of the nearly 10-year-old Entebbe Match-play Golf Challenge.
