Light Secondary School has emerged victorious in the 22nd Sky View Girls Schools Cricket Week, defeating four-time champions Olila High School in a compelling final held in Gulu City.
The victory marks Light SS’s second title and signals a potential shift in the dominance within Uganda’s girls’ cricket landscape, with both finalist schools originating from the influential Soroti Cricket Academy (SCA) hub.
In the final match, Light SS’s bowling attack proved formidable, restricting Olila HS to 62 runs for 8 wickets. Ritah Alio, who finished as the tournament’s Best Bowler with 20 wickets, and Teddy Anyait both took three wickets.
Light SS chased down the target with a composed performance, securing the win by five wickets. Susan Akello anchored the chase with an unbeaten 15.
The tournament also highlighted Cricket Uganda’s commitment to expanding girls’ cricket, with a record 20 schools participating across six venues. The event served as a crucial platform for talent identification, with 25 players selected for the national U-19 girls camp.
Individual accolades included Ritah Alio for Best Bowler, Malisa Ariokot for Best Batter, and Sonia Nampeera for Most Valuable Player.
The Sky View Girls Schools Cricket Week continues to foster growth and inclusivity in Ugandan women’s cricket, extending its reach to multiple regions and providing a clear pathway for aspiring young cricketers.
