President Yoweri Museveni was sworn in on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, for his seventh elective term as President of Uganda. The inauguration ceremony, held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala, was themed “Protecting the Gains: Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status.”
Delivering his inaugural address, President Museveni, who won the January elections with over 71 percent of the vote, declared the start of a “Kisanja of No More Sleep.” He emphasized that the next five years will be dedicated to total economic transformation and warned government officials against complacency.
“We are now entering Kisanja of no moresleep…We are now entering Kisanja no corruption,” Museveni stated, promising to awaken Ugandans from poverty and propel the nation towards high middle-income status. He highlighted the need to move beyond subsistence farming into commercialized agriculture and industrialization, supported by infrastructure developments like roads and electricity.
The President also pointed to the upcoming oil production phase, assuring that revenues would be invested in infrastructure such as railways, power generation, and science education, with the goal of building a self-sustaining economy.
During his address, Museveni also issued a stern warning against any attempts to destabilize the country, praising the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) for maintaining peace and vowing decisive action against those using violence.
He called for deeper East African integration to create a larger market for regional prosperity and concluded by appealing for national unity. The President’s message signaled a clear resolve to achieve tangible results in his new term, leaving no room for inefficiency.
