This week brings significant events to Kampala, starting with the presidential inauguration on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. While declared a public holiday, many essential workers will still need to navigate the city, facing potential disruptions from convoys traveling to and from Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

Authorities anticipate between 30,000 and 40,000 attendees at the inauguration ceremony, which is scheduled from 8 am to 2 pm. Dignitaries including ministers, MPs, civil servants, diplomats, and various leaders will be present. The Uganda Police Force plans to implement road closures in the Kololo area to ensure security.

Residents along Entebbe Road should also expect continued traffic flow as usual, given its critical role as a major transport artery.

Following the presidential swearing-in, attention shifts to the 12th Parliament’s inauguration, running from Wednesday to Friday. Although not public holidays, these events will also cause interruptions around parliamentary buildings, with over 500 Members of Parliament taking their oaths.

Each MP is permitted three guests, but larger entourages are expected, potentially filling parking areas near Parliament, such as the National Theatre parking lot. Citizens are urged to be aware of these scheduled events and make necessary arrangements to minimize personal inconvenience.
