Residents and local leaders in Kagoma-Makota town, Jinja district, were left astonished by a unique domestic dispute involving Judith Babirye, 46, and two men, Steven Orwenyi and Isaac Omoding.
The complicated situation arose when Babirye began living with Orwenyi, believing her former partner, Omoding, had passed away. However, Omoding reappeared approximately 10 months later and moved back into Babirye’s one-bedroom home.
Babirye attempted to navigate the situation by inviting both men to coexist. She explained that after Omoding’s supposed death, she started a relationship with Orwenyi. Upon Omoding’s return, she felt unable to deny him access and informed Orwenyi of the new living arrangement.
Tensions escalated as Orwenyi grew uncomfortable and accused Babirye of theft and mistreatment. Babirye then approached local leaders to facilitate Orwenyi’s departure.
During a community meeting, Orwenyi argued he was entitled to compensation for his financial and emotional contributions, including a monthly salary contribution and construction of a latrine. He requested Shs 130,000 for compensation and travel expenses back to Ngora district.
Village leaders organized a small fundraiser, collecting Shs 32,500. Babirye agreed to pay the remaining Shs 100,000 over two months. Orwenyi subsequently congratulated Omoding and departed.
Local leaders have since cautioned residents against engaging in multiple relationships, highlighting the potential for conflict and insecurity.
