Security patrols have been significantly intensified across the Kampala Metropolitan Area, with armed police and soldiers visible throughout the night and in previously less-patrolled areas. The increased security measures come just ahead of the swearing-in ceremony for President Yoweri Museveni, who secured victory in the recent general elections with 71.65% of the vote.

Authorities have been stopping and questioning individuals, particularly young people, and those unable to provide proper identification have been taken to police stations. Police spokesman Mr. Rusoke Kituuma stated that extensive deployments and operations are planned to guarantee a peaceful event. “The general public is encouraged to remain law-abiding at this moment when we are celebrating a national occasion,” Mr. Kituuma urged.

Traffic police will also be deployed to enforce road safety, with a warning against drunk driving during the public holiday. “We shall not allow anyone to drive while drank,” he emphasized, urging motorists to drive responsibly and adhere to any temporary diversions.

A specific traffic route plan is in effect for the swearing-in day, involving road closures and diversions to facilitate access to Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. Invited guests will use John Babiha Road via Elgon Terrace. General public access to Kololo will be restricted from Ssezibwa Road. Significant traffic disruptions are expected on routes from Entebbe International Airport to Kololo, including the Express Highway and Northern Bypass.
