Focus on Nepotism, Not Ethnicity, to Mend Uganda's Divisions

Ugandans frequently point fingers at tribal allegiances when discussing national divisions. However, a closer examination reveals that nepotism, the practice of favoring relatives or friends in appointments or other advantages, is the more significant driver of discord.
This form of favoritism, often discreet and woven into the fabric of society, undermines fairness and creates resentment. It allows inadequately qualified individuals to gain positions of power and influence based on connections rather than merit, leading to perceived injustices and exacerbating ethnic tensions.
To foster genuine unity and progress, it is imperative to identify and actively combat nepotism. Recognizing it as the primary source of division allows for targeted interventions and a more honest conversation about building a truly inclusive and equitable society for all Ugandans.
