Lino Anguzu, Uganda’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), has been elected as the new President of the Eastern Africa Association of Prosecutors (EAAP). The election took place during the association’s 11th Annual General Meeting and Conference, held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from May 4th to 5th, 2026.
The conference, themed “Leveraging technology in combating wildlife and transnational organised crime,” brought together leaders of national prosecution authorities from across Eastern and Southern Africa. Mr. Anguzu succeeds Kenya’s DPP, Renson M. Ingonga, who now serves as the association’s Secretary General.
The EAAP is a crucial platform for collaboration among prosecution agencies in the region, focusing on complex issues like terrorism, wildlife trafficking, cybercrime, money laundering, and human trafficking. The organization is increasingly emphasizing the use of technology and information sharing to enhance criminal justice systems among its member states.
Uganda’s Chief Justice takes over the leadership of an association that includes prosecution leaders from countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and others. Zanzibar was also admitted as a new member during the meeting, broadening the association’s reach.
In his acceptance speech, Anguzu commended the outgoing leadership and pledged to build upon their successes. He urged member states to increase their commitment and participation in advancing the EAAP’s objectives, stating, “Together, we must continue strengthening cooperation among prosecution authorities in the region, especially in addressing emerging forms of transnational organised crime.”
