Speaker Among Acquires Multi-Billion Shilling Rolls-Royce Cullinan

Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has reportedly added a highly luxurious vehicle to her collection – a 2025 Rolls-Royce Cullinan. The high-end SUV, valued at approximately Shs 2.2 billion before taxes and freight, was air-lifted from Britain last month by Albeity Limited, the same firm involved in a previous controversial vehicle procurement for Parliament.

Ms Among confirmed ownership of the vehicle, stating it was a birthday gift and that she had not personally funded the purchase. Despite being sanctioned by the UK and the US due to alleged involvement in corruption scandals, the Speaker maintains that such sanctions do not prevent her from acquiring assets from these countries. She suggested that news of the acquisition was being deliberately leaked by detractors.

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Commissioner General, John Musinguzi Rujoki, clarified that a tax amounting to Shs 1.2 billion had been levied on the vehicle. He explained that the Shs 100 million figure being circulated was merely an initial payment, and that Ms Among had arranged a staggered payment plan with URA.

The arrival of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan places Ms Among in an exclusive global group of owners, including royalty, business magnates, and celebrities. The vehicle is noted for its advanced features, including a powerful V-12 engine, a sophisticated air suspension system that adjusts to road conditions, and a premium interior with an advanced infotainment system.

This acquisition comes at a time when Uganda is identified as one of the world’s least developed countries, with a significant portion of its population living in poverty. The Rolls-Royce Cullinan itself is described as a large, extravagant, and technologically advanced SUV, capable of rapid acceleration and offering exceptional ride comfort.
