Authorities in Wakiso District are investigating an alleged case of aggravated torture involving a 10-year-old boy. Police have detained three suspects, identified as the child’s uncle, father, and the uncle’s wife, in connection with the incident.

The ordeal reportedly began on April 30, 2026, when the boy, who was under the care of his uncle, Muwanguzi Matovu, a 30-year-old mechanic, was accused of stealing Shs47,000 from their home in Nkoowe Village.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachel Kawala, the child was allegedly tied to a window with a rubber string. In an attempt to break free, the boy sustained severe injuries to both of his hands.

“It is alleged that the victim was tied to a window using a rubber string. In an attempt to free himself, the child reportedly sustained additional injuries,” SP Kawala stated.

The victim was subsequently rescued and transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Police confirmed the arrests and emphasized their commitment to addressing all cases of child torture.

“We remain committed to pursuing every incident of child torture,” SP Kawala added. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Police annual crime data for 2025 indicated a total of 710 reported cases of child abuse and torture across the country, a slight decrease from the 787 cases reported in 2024. Wamala region registered the highest number of cases in 2025.
