Ahead of President Yoweri Museveni’s inauguration on Monday, May 11, at Kololo Independence Grounds, the Uganda Police Force has announced a series of road closures and traffic diversions in Kampala.

According to police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, extensive security deployments will be visible throughout the city and surrounding districts. While this heightened security is intended to ensure the safety and orderliness of the ceremony, it will inevitably lead to road access restrictions.

Major routes leading to Kololo, including John Babiha Avenue (Acacia Avenue), will be accessible only to invited guests and heads of state. Entry to the grounds will be managed via Elgon Terrace, as specified on invitation cards.

Several other key roads will experience intermittent closures or restrictions for the general public. These include Ssezibwa Road, Yusuf Lule Road, Entebbe Road (from the airport), Munyonyo Spur, Wampeewo Avenue, Salama Road, and Buziga Road.

Rehearsals at Kololo will also affect traffic flow. Access at the Wampeewo roundabout will be limited, with vehicles being diverted via Jinja Road to designated parking areas. Additional restrictions are expected near Kati-Kati, City Oil, and along Kira Road.

The Entebbe Expressway and the Northern Bypass will remain open, though traffic officers may implement diversions at flyovers like Mpala, Kisubi, and Kajansi as needed.

The ceremony is anticipated to host approximately 35 heads of state and between 30,000 to 40,000 national and international guests. President Museveni secured his victory in the January presidential elections, marking a continuation of his long tenure in power since 1986.
