State Minister for Higher Education John Chrysostom Muyingo has called upon private health training institutions across Uganda to fully embrace and implement the recently launched National Education and Training for Health Policy. This directive aims to standardize and elevate the quality of healthcare professionals entering the workforce.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Kibuli Muslim Hospital Health Training School (KMHHTS), Minister Muyingo stressed the importance of adhering to guidelines set by both the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Ministry of Health. He highlighted that compliance with this policy framework is crucial for producing competent, ethical, and globally competitive health workers.

The new policy is designed to equip future healthcare providers with practical skills and professionalism necessary for both domestic and international service. The government acknowledges the vital role private and faith-based institutions play in supplementing public efforts to meet the growing demand for health workers.

During the event, KMHHTS graduated 468 students in nursing, midwifery, and medical laboratory sciences. The institution’s principal noted the evolving healthcare landscape and the need for graduates with enhanced knowledge, skills, and attitudes, emphasizing a focus on practical training, confidence-building, digital learning, and research.

Plans are underway for KMHHTS to expand its offerings, with aspirations to include a School of Pharmacy and eventually a School of Medicine. Officials underscored that the health sector requires professionals with not only academic qualifications but also hands-on experience and strong professional discipline, urging institutions to invest in modern equipment and clinical exposure.
