Entebbe International Airport is fully prepared to welcome international guests for President Yoweri Museveni’s upcoming swearing-in ceremony, according to the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA).

UCAA Director General Fred Bamwesigye confirmed that comprehensive operational plans are in place to ensure a smooth and dignified experience for the high-level visitors. The airport, serving as Uganda’s primary international gateway, has conducted dry runs to test its readiness for the event, which is expected to draw approximately 35 Heads of State.

Preparations encompass three key areas: facilitating arrivals and departures, ensuring infrastructure is ready, and coordinating effectively among all airport stakeholders. Adequate aircraft parking has been secured, and renovations, particularly at the VVIP terminal, have been completed. UCAA has also coordinated with airlines, ground handlers, fuel suppliers, and security agencies to guarantee seamless operations.

Separately, UCAA announced that the travel season for Ugandan pilgrims departing for the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca has commenced and will continue until May 20. The authority anticipates increased passenger traffic and advises travelers to arrive at the airport well in advance to manage check-in and other processes, ensuring they do not miss their flights.

Despite recent disruptions in Middle East airspace which impacted passenger and cargo traffic in early 2026, Entebbe Airport has shown signs of recovery, with passenger numbers increasing in April 2026. The airport is also set to handle additional chartered flights for the Hajj pilgrims.
