A tragic incident unfolded in Lomunga Town Council when Poni Islam, a 54-year-old Bangladeshi national employed as an engineer by WKK on the Yumbe-Terego road project in West Nile, was found dead in his hotel room.
North West Nile police spokesperson Collins Asea revealed that the body was discovered on Friday morning in room ‘Lisbo’ at Ruvanna Inn Bar and Lodges, which Islam had booked the previous Thursday night.
The discovery began when waitress Jane heard a phone ringing repeatedly from the unoccupied room. She alerted cashier Obiru Lillian, who informed lodge manager Jamirah Racheal.
The manager approached the slightly open door, called out without response, and upon entering, found a person on the bed. Watchman Cesar confirmed the individual was deceased.
The lodge manager reported the matter to Yumbe Central Police Station. Homicide Desk officers visited the scene, conducted an examination, and transported the body to Yumbe Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem.
Witness statements were recorded, and exhibits from the scene secured. No arrests have occurred as investigations continue.
Asea urged public cooperation and promised updates on new developments.
