Kampala Metropolitan Police are actively tracing an unidentified woman who was shot and injured by a guard near Speaker of Parliament Anita Among’s home in Kampala.

The incident unfolded around midday when the woman, driving a Toyota Harrier, allegedly failed to stop on Mackinnon Road to let Among’s convoy pass, prompting the guard to open fire. She was quickly evacuated to a medical facility, though its location remains undisclosed.

Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala confirmed investigations are underway, emphasizing the need to interview the victim and assess her injuries. Both the shooter and the woman will be questioned before any blame is assigned.

Speaker Among’s press secretary, Joseph Sabiti, clarified that she was traveling to Bukedea District for a family event at the time. Upon returning, she was briefed by police, contacted the victim’s family to offer support, and demanded expeditious probes. The involved officer has been handed over to authorities.

This shooting highlights a rising trend of confrontations involving armed escorts and civilians in Uganda. Similar cases include the fatal shooting of truck driver Julius Ssemwaka in December 2024 near Sheraton Hotel, Corporal David Ssali’s 2019 killing of biker Ronald Ssebulime, and other convoy-related incidents.
